Agroecology is a holistic approach that applies ecological concepts and principles to the design and management of sustainable agroecosystems. It is often considered the science of sustainable agriculture.
This course examines how the evolution of agriculture has impacted the environment, leading to the degradation of key production resources (soil, biodiversity, water) and altering agricultural landscapes. It also explores how agroecological principles align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and identifies agroecological systems adapted to the Algerian context.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
-
Critically evaluate conventional agricultural practices and assess their impacts on the environment and sustainability.
-
Design sustainable agroecological systems adapted to different regions of Algeria.
