introduction or initiation to linguistics comprises two chapters: Verbal and Non-verbal Communication and Design Features of Language. concerning the first chapter, it deals with aspects of communication, such as signs which consists of symbols, icons and indexes. non-verbal communication consists in body language, paralanuage, object communication and silence. And verbal communication which consists in language with its basic aspects (speech and writing). this chapter concludes with a short description of the types writing. As for the second chapter, it deals with the design features of language, such as arbitrariness, language is a system of systems, cultural transmission, stimulus freedom, duality, productivity, displacement and discreteness
