02 Detailed Unit Descriptions
Unit 1: Introductions
Weeks 1-2
CLO1
Students learn to introduce themselves, exchange personal information, and use basic greetings in academic contexts.
Grammar Focus:
- Verb "to be" (am/is/are)
- Subject pronouns
- Wh- questions (What, Where, Who)
Vocabulary:
Countries, nationalities, professions, numbers 0-100, alphabet
Unit 2: Present Simple
Weeks 3-4
CLO2
Students describe daily routines, habits, and scientific facts using correct present simple forms.
Grammar Focus:
- Present Simple affirmative/negative
- Third person singular (-s/-es)
- Time expressions (every day, always, usually)
Vocabulary:
Daily routines, time expressions, scientific verbs (measure, calculate, study)
Unit 3: There is/are
Weeks 5-6
CLO3
Students describe laboratory spaces, equipment, and locations using there is/are structures and prepositions.
Grammar Focus:
- There is / There are
- Prepositions of place (in, on, under, next to)
- Some / any with countable nouns
Vocabulary:
Laboratory equipment (beaker, microscope, test tube), classroom objects, furniture
Unit 4: Can/Can't
Weeks 7-8
CLO4
Students express abilities, permissions, and prohibitions in laboratory and academic contexts.
Grammar Focus:
- Modal verb "can" (ability, permission)
- Can't / Cannot (prohibition, inability)
- Polite requests (Can you...?)
Vocabulary:
Laboratory skills, safety rules, academic abilities, equipment operations

40% of final grade
- Participation (10%): Online activities, forum posts
- Worksheets (15%): 4 graded assignments

📋 Assessment Policy & Academic Integrity
Attendance Policy
Minimum 75% attendance required to sit for final examination. Online participation tracked via Moodle logs.
Late Submission
Worksheets accepted within 7 days with 10% penalty per day. After 7 days: automatic zero unless medical documentation provided.
Academic Integrity
Plagiarism and cheating result in course failure. All submissions checked via Turnitin. Group work guidelines provided.
Special Accommodations
Students with disabilities should contact instructor in Week 1 to arrange alternative assessment formats.
