Thermodynamics is a foundational branch of physical science that explores the principles governing energy transformations (particularly the conversion of heat into other forms of energy) and their effects on matter. This course is an essential component of the first-year curriculum for students in science and technology disciplines.
Designed to introduce the fundamental concepts of energy transfer in physical and chemical systems, the course equips students with the theoretical and practical tools needed to model, analyze, and understand real-world physical processes. Through the study of heat exchange, mechanical work, and energy conservation, students will develop a strong grasp of the laws of thermodynamics and their wide-ranging applications.
Building on core ideas from general physics and chemistry, this course also lays the groundwork for more advanced topics, including applied energetics, chemical kinetics, and industrial process engineering.
