This course aims to equip third-year undergraduate students specializing in Sociology with the theoretical and practical skills necessary to understand and analyze social data using rigorous scientific methods. The module focuses on training students to work with different types of field data—both quantitative and qualitative—from the stages of data collection and organization to processing and interpreting them within real social contexts.
The course introduces students to the concept of social data, its types, and its sources, while also providing them with the skills needed to design data collection tools such as questionnaires, interviews, and observation guides. Students are trained to handle quantitative data through the use of tables, percentages, and basic statistical indicators, in addition to learning qualitative analysis techniques such as content and discourse analysis. The course further develops students’ ability to interpret results and relate them to social phenomena and dynamics, thus enabling them to conduct field research following sound sociological methodology.
This module constitutes a fundamental component of students’ academic training, as it supports the development of field research skills and critical thinking. It also effectively prepares them for the final stage of their undergraduate studies, particularly the completion of their graduation dissertation.
