This course is designed to provide students with the foundational knowledge necessary for understanding plant classification, nomenclature, and systematics. The focus is on enabling students to identify key plant groups, especially those relevant to animal nutrition. Understanding the nutritional value of plants is crucial, as they form the basis of animal feed, offering essential nutrients like proteins, vitamins, and fibers that are vital for the growth and health of animals. The practical and theoretical aspects of the course aim to guide students in recognizing plants from major taxonomic groups, such as Mycophytes, Pteridophytes, and Spermatophytes, and to distinguish between Gymnosperms and Angiosperms, two subphyla within the Spermatophytes. Emphasis is placed on Angiosperms, particularly Monocotyledons and Dicotyledons, with detailed exploration of the Rosid subclass and plants from 15 different orders. Many of these plants are of great importance in animal feed, providing vital nutrients that support animal health and productivity. Each plant example is thoroughly examined to highlight its key characteristics and its role in animal nutrition.
