The physical sciences are characterized by the conjunction of three modes of research on nature. The theoretical approach is a modeling process by which concepts are described using mathematical equations. The analytical approach strives to derive consequences from these equations either rigorously by theorems, or approximately in general by a perturbative method. Finally, we seek to verify these predictions through observation or experiment.
