The main points devoted to the second semester are needs identification and analysis, course design and material selection and development. After dealing with the main theories and concepts related to ESP, learners are invited to launch a preliminary needs analysis process following the Hutchinson and Waters (1987) model. Learners choose a close classmate, family member or a colleague who is interested, or more importantly need to learn English for academic or occupational purposes. A tool for data collection must be designed to depict different linguistic necessities, lacks and wants of the chosen candidate. Furthermore, an analysis of the collected data takes place within the second phase to organize and classify needs into teaching units. Finally, learners will choose a set of materials to design one lesson that serves a specific need of their candidate.
